Practical and Useful

I'm the Training Coordinator at a manufacturing facility with 200 hourly employees whom we are trying to get more involved in a team-based work system. This book has given me so much PRACTICAL information on the how's and why's of doing this! I'm actually able to relate this information to our employees in a way that it clearly shows the benefits TO THEM of working in teams. Too many of these so-called "Team Building" books are filled with silly exercises that do nothing in the long run. If you want something practical and useful, I recomment this book!

The best practical manual on team building

I have easily paid 8x more for other 'manuals', and have none with a more ugly cover, yet this is the anchor of my team building library. It is short on philosophy and long on the day-to-day requirements of goal-setting, consensus building, procedures, and strategies. This is THE book of practical advice to guide a team and its' leader, regardless of prior experience.

About the Author

Andrew J. DuBrin is Professor Emeritus at the College of Business, Rochester Institute of Technology where he has taught organizational behavior, leadership and career management. His research interests include human relations and business psychology. His research has been reported in Entrepreneur, Psychology Today, the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Small Biz, and over 100 national magazines and local newspapers.

Terri Geerinck is a faculty member in the Interdisciplinary Studies Centre at Sir Sandford Fleming College. She teaches several courses including Introductory Psychology, Social Psychology, and Interpersonal and Group Dynamics. As part of a team, she has also delivered human relations training to business and industry with a particular emphasis on problem solving, interpersonal communication skills, and conflict management. Her teaching interests are instructional design, methodology, prior learning assessment, and course conversion to web-based formats. Before teaching at Sir Sandford Fleming, she held various consulting positions in several communities in Ontario. Terri Geerinck's formal education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and sociology from Brock University and a master's degree in education from Central Michigan University.

About the Author

Dr. Maxim Finkelstein received his M.Sc degree in Mathematical Physics from Leningrad State University (1971), Ph.D in OR from Leningrad Elektropribor Institute, 1979 and Doctor of Science degree (habilitation) in OR from St.-Petersburg Elektropribor Institute (1993).

Currently he is a Senior Professor at the Department of Mathematical Statistics, University of the Free State, Republic of South Africa and a visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, Germany.

His main research interests are: reliability theory and applications, survival analysis, risk and safety modelling, applied stochastic processes. He had published more than 160 papers and 5 books on different aspects of reliability and stochastic modelling. His last book "Failure rate modelling for reliability and risk" was published by Springer in 2008. He is the Editor of “South African Statistical Journal” and serves as a board member and Associate Editor for a number of international journals.

Dr. Ji Hwan Cha received his B.Sc degree in Computer Science and Statistics from Seoul National University, Korea, in 1993 and his M.Sc and Ph.D degrees in Statistics from Seoul National University in 1995 and 1999, respectively.

He is an Associate Professor at the Department of Statistics, Ewha Womans University, Seoul, Korea. He is an associate editor of Journal of the Korean Statistical Society. He has published numerous papers in various international journals and two books on Introductory Statistics and Reliability Theory, respectively (in Korean). His research interests include applied probability, reliability theory, stochastic processes, stochastic operations research and management science.

Silvia Maria Alessio is Assistant Professor of Digital Signal Processing and Physics of the Atmosphere at University of Torino, Italy. Her research focuses mainly on geophysics, more precisely the physics of atmosphere and of environmental, climatic and paleo-climatic problems.
