Not Impressed

After starting this series, I felt like I needed to follow it through, despite feeling like Branded (Book 1) had some concept holes and more than a little cheesiness bogging the narration and pacing down.

I wanted to like Stranded. I really did. If I liked anything, it was probably the ending, which was its one redeeming quality. But all throughout the book, I found myself rolling my eyes at the cheesy, unrealistic love story between two teens, cringing at the awkward dialogue, and ultimately getting frustrated at the tension that resolves itself way too quickly. Because the author allows the barely built tension to dissipate too soon, she frequently has to create new or similar mini moments of tension in an attempt to keep the book from dragging. (Note the "attempt.") This is how we wound up with the rinse and repeat feeling in this book - ie the same events happening over and over again. By the end of the book, I was thoroughly bored with the plot, because it was simply all varying shades of the same theme.

I think the biggest problem is that our author missed the mark on the 3 degrees on tension - inner, social, and plot. The inner tension isn't well-developed. Our "hero" just goes with the flow, and the few times he doesn't, it doesn't cause any significant drama. Any social tension, ie fights, unrequited love, etc is constantly undermined by the author's insistence to maintain a fairy-tale feel to her book. Forgiveness is granted, teens make up, and the tension goes right down the drain. The plot-related tension fizzles because of the way the author prevents any real consequences for her characters. There isn't much of a risk factor when one character can see the future, one can instantly sense danger, another can wish it all away, and yet another can heal any injuries. That's not even taking into account the mind-reader, the super-strength, etc. Additionally, near-death experiences tend to lose their grip when your characters repeatedly get into and back out of them with absolutely no permanent damage.

Needless to say, the book felt amateurish and slow. There were tons of typos, the pacing was miserable, and I found myself strongly disliking all the characters, because of their lack of depth and substance. It was impossible to connect with them. I think it's safe to say I won't be finishing this series, despite nearly always seeing a storyline to its completion. I don't think I could drag myself through another chapter, let alone another book.

Wow, everything seems so easy then wham. I did notice that this second book read more like a harlequin romance, until the wham. Am hoping for little more substance in the next, I still enjoyed the characters and was devastated at the ending.

the story line it's great, I've had a difficult time putting the book down. I wish there weren't so many holes though. I wound love to know much more about the characters in their past. still a very good read.

Banks and Hallensleben further develop the bedtime theme of And If the Moon Could Talk and The Night Worker, this time with the antics of a restless tiger cub. On a sunny midafternoon in a tropical forest, a mother tiger persuades her son to take a nap. "If I close my eyes, I can't see the sky," the mischievous tiger protests, in a portrait framed by the white page. "Yes you can.... You can even float among the clouds," his mother promises, as a fantasy spread pictures fluffy animal-shaped clouds and the little feline reclining in a half-moon; alternating full-bleed images like this one suggest the listener is relaxing into a dream. At last, the cub squeezes his eyes shut. "It's dark," he says. "Dark like your stripes," his mother observes. Banks styles the text as a give-and-take, while Hallensleben sets the jungle scene in impasto layers of sapphire, jade and aquamarine that complement the yellow-orange of the tigers' coats. Roughly hewn paintings depict the patient mother as a bona-fide predator, and her son as a cuddly fellow with bright black eyes, round ears and an upturned smile. Banks and Hallensleben conspicuously borrow the strategy of Margaret Wise Brown and Clement Hurd's classic The Runaway Bunny, which similarly toggles between reality and reverie, and likewise ends with the mother having the last word. At this book's satisfying close, the son falls asleep as his mother promises to be there when he wakes. Ages 3-6.

PreSchool-Grade 2-Little tiger and his mother sit in the tall grass waiting for night to fall. He is reluctant to go to sleep because then he won't be able to see the sky, the trees, or the birds. His mother promises that if he closes his eyes, he will be able to float among the clouds, play hide-and-seek among the trees, and possibly even fly with the birds. When he fears that his mother will be gone when he wakes up, she assures him that she will be there, and he quietly drifts into the land of dreams. The text flows beautifully from one page to the next and lends itself perfectly to reading aloud. The slightly curved vertical lines of the illustrations create a sense of a moment captured in time. Each lovely spread enhances the lyrical text, showing animal-shaped clouds, little tiger flying with multicolored birds, or the young creature reflecting on what he sees. Richly hued reds, greens, blues, browns, and other colors create a dreamy and soft picture of the world in which the two animals reside. This beautifully written and charmingly illustrated story will be enjoyed over and over again.

A beautiful bedtime book!

This is a wonderful book that my 20mo old adores. Its about a little tiger who is scared to go to sleep at night. The mother tiger comforts him and explains to him that he doesnt need to be scared and that she will be right there if he needs her. One of the quotes is so beautiful, the mother tiger says to the baby tiger "dark is just the other side of light. It's what comes before dreams." My heart melted when I read that for the first time and I thought that was a perfect way to tell a child that its ok to close your eyes and go to sleep. This book will be a big hit at bedtime!

Great for the Kids at Bedtime, and for Tiger Fans All Times

This is a delightful little book, about a tiger cub who doesn't want to go to sleep as his mom directs. He doesn't want to let go of his wonderful day-time world by closing his eyes. His mom coaches him along the way, about all the wonders he can see in his imagination, and then in his dreams. Most importantly, she assures him that she always will be there to protect him.
The illustrations are fanciful and utterly non-threatening. I come from a bunch that loves tigers anyway, but even if you're a little wary of "large, ferocious animals", as someone once put it to me, don't pass this one up. There is no ferocity here; there is only gentleness and a mother's love.
... Don't pass this one by!

Beautiful modern "go to sleep" tale.

This is a bedtime book for little kids that will be appreciated by adults too. The very simple story adresses a young cub's concerns about going to sleep with the lights out (whether the cub is the little tiger in the book, or your own little cub in their bed.)
As mentioned in the other reviews, Kate Banks text is lovely -- simple and poetic; easy and fun to read. But, it is the illustrations that are really special to me, and how well they work with the story that really elevates this book to the level of classic. The illustrations are beautiful, simple and bold. Very little kids will be captivated -- and their expressive power will be felt by adults too.
Whether you buy books for a small child or just collect picture books for their artwork this is a must have.

OK, but not as good as Carnal Harvest

I got this book immediately after finishing Carnal Harvest, which also features Brent and Joe. Maybe it's because I enjoyed the short story nature of Carnal Harvest, but for some reason, Carnal Compromise fell a little flat for me. Brent, Joe and AJ (or Joe and AJ anyway) seemed to have too many baggage issues, which I understand were written in for plot purposes and to help create some angst and emotional connection between the characters. Nevertheless, I just didn't find Joe to be very likeable. And I didn't find it believeable that AJ would just suddenly embarge on a menage relationship the way she did.

The three characters visited Hake and Mandy in this story, and that visit left me cold. I think the purpose was to show how open Hake's and Mandy's relationshp was, but it actually left me thinking that they were growing further apart.

Brent Anderson runs a farming operation. Brent and his crew travel from place to place completing specialty farming jobs. Things are getting a little cramped in the trailer since AJ Pender joined the crew. Actually, to tell the truth, the sexual tension was already pretty strong between Brent and his best friend, Joe, before AJ arrived, but now that the sexy siren has come aboard the sexual tension is downright painful.

Joe has been trying to get in Brent's pants for years. He constantly bates him but Brent has always refused his overt advances. Then the beautiful AJ joined their farming crew and all he can think of is having them both. However, Joe isn't interest in anything permanent. He's cool with having sex with his best friend and the new girl but he doesn't want a relationship.

AJ Pender didn't know what she was getting herself into when she joined Brent Anderson's crew. It's hard enough being a woman in a male dominated field but to have a crush on your gay boss and his boyfriend, well, that is just downright stupid on her part.

When the heat becomes too much for these three, passion ignites an insane blaze of sexual fire. But will their fierce connection be enough to keep them together or will their past doubts and intense hurts have them running for the nearest cover?

Carnal Compromise is a vivacious, hot-as-hell romance. If you're not careful these three will leave you with third degree burns from flipping the pages. I like all three characters but Joe is a standout because of his complex nature and his secrets. His secrets explain a lot about his attitude and behavior throughout Carnal Compromise. I would have liked to learn his secrets sooner so I wouldn't have felt the need to throw something at him so often. AJ is a fiery woman who has never known anything to be easy, and her relationship with Brent and Joe is no exception. AJ has serious self confidence issues and I love that it is addressed in a great way. I found Brent to be adorable. He knows what he wants but is afraid of what will happen when he gets it. Well, he definitely finds out! Carnal Compromise is sinfully delicious and hauntingly humorous. Robin L. Rotham walks all over hot button issues and delivers a Carnal Compromise you won't soon forget.

This is the story of Joe, Brent and AJ. Joe and Brent own a roaming ranch hand company and have just hired on AJ. All three are sharing an RV as they move from one job site to the other and trying to deny the passion between them. After being caught pleasuring herself by the men, there is no more denial and things get heated.

But nothing is easy with these three and their relationship is quickly complicated by denied feelings and emotions. When everything is finally laid out, can they make this unconventional relationship work??

First off, let me say that I don't usually right full reviews for Erotic stories...they are usually short with not much content so I don't feel like I have much to say but this story was great so I just had to write this.

While this story is off the charts hot, it also has great character development and a wonderful overall story ark. You are introduced to Joe and Brent in the first book in this series which was so short I almost didn't read this one but I am so glad I did. I should give a warning at this point...this book is not for the faint of heart. It contains several m/m, m/m/f and f/f graphic sex scenes...they fit well with the story but if this isn't for you, you probably won't like this story.

My thoughts:

POV: jumps around between the three but is easy to follow
Quick hook or slow starter? 5 (I was hooked from the first chapter)
Character development: 4.5
Level of Romance between characters: 4.5
Passion/Heat level: 5 (the sex scenes in this story are graphic and hot...burn up the pages)
Angst/Heartbreak: 4 (a little but nothing too crazy)
Cliffhanger?: No but I wish there was another book with these three!!

Overall, I really really liked it and look forward to reading more from this author.
