"This book addresses the topic of the general nonlinear integer programming (NLIP). The overall goal of the book is to bring the state of the art of the theoretical foundations and solution methods of NLIP to readers who are interested in optimization, operations research and computer science. This book investigates the theory and solution methodologies for the general NLIP and provides the developments of the last 30 years. It is assumed that readers are familiar with linear integer programming and the book thus focuses on the theory and solution methodologies of NLIP. The following are some of the features of the book: \roster \item"$\bullet$" Duality theory for NLIP: Investigation into the relationship of the duality gap and the perturbation function has lead to the development of nonlinear Lagrangian theory, thus establishing a methodology for the solution of the NLIP. \item"$\bullet$" Convergent Lagrangian and cutting plane methods for NLIP: Concepts like the objective level cuts, objective contour cuts or the domain cut reshapes the perturbation function. This leads to the optimal solution to lie in the convex hull of the perturbation functions and thus guarantees a zero duality gap. \item"$\bullet$" Convexification scheme: Using the connection between monotonicity and convexity, convexification schemes are developed for monotone and non-convex integer programs, thus extending the reach of branch and bound methods. \item"$\bullet$" Solution framework using global descent: The optimal solution of an NLIP is sought from among the local minima. Hands down the best set-up/repair book I've found.

Easy read with tips that are usable on-the-fly. Somebody put some thought into the layout; like when you've got your neck in one hand and a screwdriver in the other...the last thing you want to do is turn a page! This book solves that with straightforward instructions and large, useful photos...all on the same page. Only negative for me was the bass guitar chapter. Covers all the basics, I just wanted a few more "if you're at a gig and "x" happens" that the other chapters address so well. Still, it's does everything else so well I had to give it 5 out of 5.

"Tales from the road" make a normally boring subject matter fun again. Occasionally bordering on the unbelievable ("go save my drums" in the tornado comes to mind), but you can tell that author really is who he says he is. For Black Crowes & B-52's fans, it's worth the read even if you don't play.

Delivers what it promises, solid information and a look at a working guitar tech's life.

A guitar repair client asked me to assess the “Guitarist’s Guide to Maintenance and Repair: A Tech to the Stars Tells How to Maintain Your Axe Like a Pro” by Doug Redler and Dave Rubin. Despite the book’s title, I expected the pages to contain far too many stories with a “look at how cool I am hanging with Rock Stars” message and very little useful information. What I found when I actually opened the book is a book that delivers exactly what it claims, a guide to maintaining and repairing guitars, basses and amplifiers.
Redler gives straightforward directions to perform basic maintenance balanced with pertinent stories illustrating how he uses these techniques on the road as a guitar tech for artists like kd Lang, the B-52s, The Black Crowes and others. Clear photographs, straightforward writing and clever titles illustrate each section. The stories, taken from Redler’s 25 year career, demonstrate real life application of these techniques while giving readers unfamiliar with a guitar tech’s duties a good overall picture of his life on the road. Redler shares both the embarrassing mistakes he made as he learned his craft and a few of his triumphs. Overall he gives a balanced picture of his working life behind the scenes.
The author includes a resource section containing information about guitar repair schools; books videos/DVDs on the subject; tool, repair and parts sources; guitar sales and amp repair shops in New York City and Los Angeles; guitar, string and pickup companies; and two websites for those who want to get into the roadie business. He also discusses his list of basic tools he carries on the road.
While this book won’t give you all of the information to open your own repair shop, it will give you a more than solid foundation for maintaining your equipment to its highest standard. I recommend the book, especially to working musicians. It’s a valuable resource whether you are interested in maintaining your own gear or just want to be a more educated consumer.

Must read for any level guitar player.

As a novice player I don't know too much about the inner workings of my instruments. Having this book as a reference has given me a sense of confidence I've never had while working on my guitars. Weather you're serious about your music or just looking for a fun project, you can't go wrong with this step by step guide. There's also some fun tales from the road. With Doug's impressive resume of bands and artists he's worked with, I'd trust no one more to learn from. You won't be disappointed.

good basics for understanding solar systems

Dr. Vera Cole, the author of this book is very knowlegeable and was very helpful. She is a very good person along with the MAREA (Mid Atlantic Renewable Energy Association). I attended her class several years ago when we were thinking of installing a sollar system and it was very well worth the time and money and helped when we finally made the purchase. She is updating her book and will be producing a more general version in the future. I think I had loaned out my other copies to friends and couldn't find the originals I had. So I needed to get some more to refresh myself and also hand out to more folks. Attend her class or purchase her book, it will help.
