It was day one. 6God said, 'Let there be a huge space between the waters. Let it separate water from water.' 7And that's exactly what happened. God made the huge space between the waters. He separated the water that was under the space from the water that was above it. 8God called the huge space 'sky.' There was evening, and there was morning. It was day two. 9God said, 'Let the water under the sky be gathered into one place. Let dry ground Genesis Introduction: Genesis is the first book of the Bible. The word Genesis means 'beginnings.' This book tells how the world began. Moses wrote the book of Genesis. He wrote about Adam and Eve's sin. He wrote about God's love. This book tells of God's special people. Some of these people are Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. The first five books of the Bible are called the books of the law. These books were God's instructions to the people of Israel. He went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea. That is where Bethlehem, the town of David, was. Joseph went there because he belonged to the family line of David. 5He went there with Mary to be listed. Mary was engaged to him. She was expecting a baby.

Great Bible for 3rd-4th Graders

This Bible was recommended by our homeschool curriculum to purchase for our 2nd graders. Although we purchase it at that time, it isn't until they are later in their 2nd grade year & through the 3rd & 4th grade years that it is so beneficial (for the reading level). I so appreciate the larger print & the slight modification of words to make it easier for the kids to understand. We just bought our 4th one (for the youngest child) and highly recommend it!

Great for enthusiastic readers!

I bought this Bible for my 1st grader who is reading above grade level. We presented it to her with much pomp and circumstance and she was so pleased to have her very own bible that she can read. It's not a "storybook" and it's not my leather-bound grown up Bible. It has a few pictures but not that many. She doesn't seem to care. She is enjoying learning how to look up books, chapters and verses. This is a great exercise in itself. Several times a week, she gets her Bible and sits down at the table to read something. She does this completely on her own without my prompting and I am so pleased. Yesterday she wanted to read about Ruth since she was a woman in the Bible who had her very own book. I helped her find Ruth and she began reading it. Once she had read enough, she used her bookmark to save her place for the next time. It brings me such joy to see my daughter discovering the Bible on her own at age 6. That's exactly what I had hoped "The Discoverer's Bible" would accomplish!

A decent book with good information.

The book is well put together as far as information goes. I believe it can help the photographer as well as the model put together a good portfolio. However the actual writing of the book leaves me wondering if there was a proofreader or even editor to this book. There are several typos, and over spacing. Some of the footnotes are placed in a manner that disrupt the reading flow. With that said the photos give good illustration to the information even though they're slightly outdated, most likely taken from stock photos. Information is still useful and gives you a good place to start. Some of the information is a little out of date but you should always check for the newest information any ways. Laws and trends can change very quickly, a book that was published the month you're reading it may be out of date the next month. This book is the few years old are ready.

Very useful for photographers and models.

I am a somewhat experienced amateur photographer that is moving more into portrait and studio work.

This book is a quick read, straight and to the point. This book describes, step by step, what is important when photographing models (even covers some legal issues). It is also a must read for beginning models (I have all my inexperienced models read it before we begin, along with Pegram's book in the "P.S." below).

It covers basic photo techniques with lots of example photos, basic studio layout, basic posing do's and don'ts, basic makeup and hair, and examples of basic "kits" for both inexperienced photographers and models. Also includes several example photo portfolios.

Even has basic tips on `how to find work' for both aspiring photographers and models.

For both newbie models and model photographers, this should be your first book.

Depends upon experience.

This is not a bad book and I'm not going to trash it. It is, however, like many of the Amherst Media books, a little disappointing for anyone pretty far along in the business. I would consider it a complete beginner's guide to modeling and model photography. In that light, it's a useful and interesting book. I found the photos to be less than stellar and a bit dated, but this is totally subjective. (You can see a lot better by browsing the showcased photos on OneModelPlace.com.)The entire book left me wishing for more. With all this stated, I did learn some things from this book, which probably compensated for the cover price. In short, don't expect miracles from this book.

Although I read the entire book, I am more of a person who enjoys looking at entire rooms and seeing how flea market, estate sale, yard sale items are put together as a whole. I found the photographs a little too dark for my taste and sometimes a little too shabby.

I just didn't like it that much at all

The book was okay but I'm more of a Sibella Court and Hans Blomqist (love his books) type person. The book felt cold and rigid and not for me at all. It doesn't flow and the colors are off. I just didn't like it that much at all. Too much patchy wood and I never felt any warmth at all. I'm sure many people will like it but it was a bad fit for me.

About the Author

R.C. Hibbeler graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana with a BS in Civil Engineering (majoring in Structures) and an MS in Nuclear Engineering. He obtained his PhD in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University. Professor Hibbeler’s professional experience includes postdoctoral work in reactor safety and analysis at Argonne National Laboratory, and structural and stress analysis work at Chicago Bridge and Iron, as well as at Sargent and Lundy in Chicago. He has practiced engineering in Ohio, New York, and Louisiana.

 

Professor Hibbeler currently teaches both civil and mechanical engineering courses at the University of Louisiana– Lafayette. In the past, he has taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana, Youngstown State University, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Union College.
